The Stars in the name 'Southern Stars' represent each person's own talent. We would like to pick up their potential ability. Also, we would like to spread YOSAKOI dancing all over the world.April 2004
What's Yosakoi Soran?
This festival is held in SAPPORO CITY (HOKKAIDO JAPAN). This festival includes not only local people but people from all over Japan and the world. It is a well known event attracting thousands of performers and millions of spectators.
Many years ago a student from HOKKAIDO went to a city called KOUCHI.There he saw the local YOSAKOI Festival and was so moved by it he wanted to bring the dance to HOKKAIDO.
The YOSAKOI SORAN Festival is a combination of YOSAKOI FESTIVAL forms from KOUCHI and SOURANBUSHI (fisherman's song) from HOKKAIDO. The first time (1992') the festival took place in HOKKAIDO only 100 people joined. The YOSAKOI SORAN Festival is now celebrated by more than two million people. Now summer in SAPPORO means the YOSAKOI SORAN Festival !!
